Dr OZ Spamming again

This spam is about the miracle fat burning pill made from extract of Kidney Beans. This absolute nonsense is pretty much like all his other miracle cures for everything under the sun. His stupid "paid advertising" TV Show is still running so with a paid audience it's difficult to tell if anyone really believes his nonsense. They can have him, just stop sending your SPAM to my Email box.

Ways to Spot a Phishing Scam

It’s early in the morning, and you’ve just made a cup of coffee. You’re checking your email when you see one from PayPal, informing you there is an issue with your account and to ‘click here’ to verify your account. The email even features the official PayPal logo.

Because it’s early and your coffee hasn’t kicked in yet, you might think the email is legitimate and click the embedded link or attachment. And you might end up sorry if you did. If you’d taken a closer look, you’d have realized it was a phishing email.

Phishing emails are designed to look like legitimate messages from actual banks, businesses, and other organizations. In reality, though, criminals created the message, usually in an effort to steal your money, identity, or both. They want you to click links that will take you to a website that looks authentic but is really just there to capture your credit card or other personal information or perhaps to distribute malware.

Vacation Mess (Help Needed) !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just received this email from a friend who'd obviously had his account compromised. This is an old scam and I'm not sure what he can do at this point. I contacted him thru a message board rather than reply to email because someone else has access.

--------------------------------------
I'm writing this with tears in my eyes, i came down here to London England. for a short vacation to visit a resort and got mugged at gunpoint last night at the park of the hotel where i lodged. All cash, credit cards and cell were stolen off me. I've been to the U.S embassy and the Police here but they're not helping issues at all, my flight leaves today and I'm having problems settling the hotel bills. The hotel manager won't let me leave until i settle the hotel bills($2,350) now am freaked out. Please reply back and let me know you will be able to loan me the cash, so that i can give you the details were you need to get the cash to me if you can have the money wire to me through western union i promise to pay back as soon as i get back home.

Epsilon Email Hacked

Epsilon Email Hacked: Increased Identity Theft and Spam Potential

April 03, 2011 05:00 PM EDT

Millions of email accounts have been hacked and are now subject to increased spam attacks and phishing for personal information. A data breach at Epsilon, one of the largest email marketing firms, exposed users email addresses and their names. As of this time, no social security numbers or financial information have been exposed.

Epsilon manages email marketing campaigns for large companies. Customers at TiVo, The College Board, Ritz-Carlton, the Home Shopping Network, JPMorgan Chase, Brookstone, Walgreens, Capital One, Kroger, McKinsey & Company and US Bank have been alerted to their compromised information. Emails sent to customers provided assurances that no financial information was compromised.

The Epsilon email hacking was supossedly accomplished by one rogue individual who amassed millions of email address and names during the attack. This list of information may ultimately be sold to email marketing groups for mass spam campaigns.

A more serious threat, a phishing campaign, may also be the intended use of these massive customer lists. Phishing attempts try to obtain personal information such as social security numbers or credit card information from customers for identity theft purposes. Targeted emails that address customers by name are usually more effective for these types of crimes. Impacted customers who receive unusual emails should be wary of providing any information through an email link.

Epsilon states they have launched a full-scale investigation of the incident. This email hacking shows how vulnerable information can be in a digital world and how vigilant companies must be against cyber crimes.

Twitter Alert: Be Careful With Your Email

Spammers have found a new way to use Twitter. This one lets them harvest email addresses easily, and use these addresses to do their dirty business. The good news is that you can avoid this practice by simply not tweeting your email address.

I was having a talk with Twellow's lead developer Matthew Daines, and he pointed out that a simple query on Twitter Search can return large numbers of email addresses that spammers could potentially exploit.

"It would be trivial to write a script that gathers these addresses," he added. "They could have several hundred thousand over a few weeks at the rate they trickle in."

The ability to search for email addresses has always existed on search engines like Google, but Twitter and it's real-time updates brings a whole new element to the matter. They come in fast, and they're always going to be up to date. This is why it could be enticing for spammers.

"The Twitter stream really weeds out all sorts of irrelevant data and cuts right to the email addresses within 140 characters, so it's a lot less intense, and would require very little coding skill," says Daines. "The thing is this makes it just too easy to get email addresses."

My Dear Friend

I have a new email address!
You can now email me at: p.okee@yahoo.com

- My Dear Friend, It is my pleasure to reach you after our unsuccessful attempt on our business transaction. Well, I just want to use this medium to thank you very much for your earlier assistance to help me in receiving the funds, without any positive outcome. I am obliged to inform you that I have succeeded in receiving the funds with the help of a new partner from Paraguay Mr. Fernando Alvaro Gomez.

Everything was perfectly done because we strike a deal with one of the Lady Accountant who works with the Federal Ministry of Finance (FMF), and she rendered a tremendous help to us. My new partner initiated this idea and everything worked out successfully. In appreciation of your earlier assistance to me in receiving the funds, I have decided to compensate you with the sum of $1,300,000.00(One Million, Three Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) in a Cashier's cheque. This is from my own share. I did this simply to show appreciation to you for your kind support and assistance even though we could not succeed due to some unforseen circumstances and reason.

Presently, I am in Paraguay for investment project with my own share under the advice of my partner. Meanwhile, I didn't forget your past efforts and attempts to assist me in transferring this funds despite the fact that we could not succeed. I will be sending you e-mail from time to time to know if you have received your share or not. In the light of the above, you are therefore, to contact my personal assistant Rev. Sam Adeyemi and do send him your contact address where you want the cheque to be sent to you. His e-mail address: rev_sam@inMail24.com,

Please do let me know immediately you receive it so that we can share the joy together after all the suffering at that time. In the moment, I am very busy here in Asuncion the capital city of Paraguay because of the investment projects, which the new partner and I are having at hand. So feel free to get in touch with him to send the cheque to you without any delay. With My Best Regards, DR PETER OKEE.
